March 21, 2009How long do I have to wait to use the clay bar on a new truck the date on the door says 8-08. The truck has to go back to the dealer for a paint flaw on the driver door so it will be getting fixed. Should I wait till the door is fixed and for how long after it is painted? I am ticked off that the door needs to be fixed some quality controle.

March 22, 2009normally after paint, you have to wait 3-4 weeks before using any wax *or* cleaners on the pain, only water to wipe it down. i would assume clay bar has the same wait time. it also depends on the kind of curing process the body shop uses. i know my uncle''s shop you can buff it and wax it *or* watever you want right out of the paint booth!
March 22, 2009We used clay bar on trucks right off the car hauler when I worked at the dealer. I can''t speak intelligently to the long term effects, but I didn''t have any problems (as long as the clay bar didn''t have a bunch of crap on it from the last truck I did).
March 22, 2009^^^ was that a man sized claybar Mort? Someone gave me a mothers claybar kit, and its like the size of a motel soap bar. Seems kinda inadequate when I''m looking at a CC LB lol
March 22, 2009^^^I would cut that in half before you use it
March 22, 2009I will ask on how long I should wait after the door gets fixed and might give it a shot.
March 24, 2009If they just finished painting it, shouldnt it be nice and smooth in that area?
Really Ken, cut it in half? *or* are you messing with me? lol
March 24, 2009I cut mine in 1/2 in case you drop it.... THROW IT AWAY. It will pick up grit and if you still use it it will ruin your day. Meguiars kits are packed into 2 sealed packs for you

Anything I use is man-sized.
But I didn''t do whole trucks, just got off that rail dust crap that piled up on them, especially on Cab and Chassis''. Darn things looked like they had leprosy right off the convoy truck.
March 25, 2009Lol Mort
I''ll remember to cut it in half
