April 4, 2008I HAVE A 2004 F250 CREWCAB 4X4 6.0.I DRIVE 40 MILES A DAY BACK ROADS DONT EVER GET OVER 45MPG.MY FRIEND GAVE ME A BD POWERPUP ON ECON&TOW DID NOT SEE MUCH FUEL MILAGE INCREASE BUT ON PERFORMANCE I GET ABOUT 2MPG MORE.WILL IT HURT ANYTHING LEAVING IT ON PERFORMANCE DOING DAILY DRIVING. THE TRUCK IS COMPLETELY STOCK AND IS MY 1ST DIESEL AND FORD DONT KNOW WHAT TO EXCEPT.

April 4, 2008APOSTO, as long as the tune isn't too radical, the motor will handle it just fine. Lots of guys have run tunes like you are using and have had no issues. Now, if you go with what most call a "looney tune", then you can possibly get into some problems as you are now starting to push the limits.
If you are going to have an issue, it will be with the head bolts and/or head gaskets. Unfortunately, this is not a cheap fix. But, once you get the fix, then you can go hog wild with the tunes. Just don't put the Ford headbolts back in or you will be limited with your tunes.

April 5, 2008APOSTO, I would ask the dealer then which headbolts that they put into the engine. Where the issue comes with the diesel engine is that as you start generating more power, the cylinder pressures start to rise. As the pressures rise, the head bolts start seeing more stress and over time they will stretch slightly. Once you get the stretch, then you don't have the loading on the headgasket for the sealing effect. The aftermarket bolts are made from a different material than the Ford bolts and are stronger (resist streching better). As long as you are not running a looney tune, then you should be just fine. THe increase in cylinder pressure is very minimal. What you are seeing is more in the timing of the fuel injection and programming of the tranny shifts, not so much introduction of more fuel.

April 6, 2008Chances are if the dealership did the HGs b4 you bought the truck, they more than likely used factory headbolts. They'll last a for alil while with hard driving, but they will eventually stretch again. Headstuds are needed, but Ford wont install them unless you buy them.
I dont know about the Powerpup, but I, along with many others here, run my truck with DJs SCT Looney tune loaded everytime I drive it. No probs yet, DJ does a very good job of keeping cylinder pressures down and still making good power.
April 8, 2008MATT IS THE LOONEY TUNE HIGH PERFORMANCE. HOW LONG HAVE BEEN RUNNING IT AND DID YOU HAVE NEW HEADGASKETS DONE WITH NEW HEAD STUDS.ALOT OF YOU GUYS TALK GOOD ABOUT SCT.DOES IT COME PROGRAMED OR DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT DOWNLOADED. I'M NEW TO THIS.
April 8, 2008If you have your converter still in your exhaust then you better not push it hard for long durations or your egt's will get to high and burn up your turbo. just remember that if you pull with it that you need to do it in stock, or another mild tune. I will be putting a MBRP exhaust on mine real soon and then I will get my programmer.
April 8, 2008The Looney tune is a high performance custom tune from DJ @ dj-performance.com
My truck only has 12K miles on it, half of that has been with the SCT on it. Still on stock bolts. I do have a MBRP xhaust with cat delete, too help with EGTs. (sounds good too)
The custom tunes,like the Looney, have to either be loaded on the SCT when you order from DJ, or sent to you by email then downloaded onto the programmer, then you can program your truck. Unless you know someone with a SCT they will have to send you the SCT with only the "canned" tunes until you can read the strategy from your truck and send it to them, then they will write you a custom tune and email it to ya. Tuners can do just about anything from economy, towing, mild power street tunes, to high performance files and race only files. Then theres tuning for aftermarket injectors and turbos etc, but we wont go there right now.
I recommend DJ, as many others here use him too, great customer service, strong tunes, and unlimited tunes if you buy the SCT from them. I say send Vivian an email and tell her ya want an SCT X3 (not Livewire), then ya can have some fun.
