March 30, 2008Sup people well first of all im hew here its my first time...well i got a 2001 F150 step side short bed (same as the lightning) with the 5.4 automatic. I got it lowered 3/4 wit the belltec. on the engine i have a cold air intake with a 80mm mass air senser, powerdyne throttle body space,E3 spark plugs,JBA headers, Borla exhaust, dual Flex-a-lite electric fans @ 6,000cfm, 160thermostat, and a sniper tunner. well about a month ago i took to have it Dyno it ran at 210.92 RWHP im like HUH? so after that i have install a BBK 75mm throttle body and the mac 3 piece pulleys but the truck seems to run the same...em i missing something or doing something wrong? do i need bigger injectors? im really dissapinted putting lots of $ and time on it. just yesterday i raised my friends 2000 dodge ram short bed with the 5.9 with only the flowmaster and we went both the the same. can anyone help me ? thanks

March 30, 2008The throttle body and throttle body spacer are worthless. Lose the Thermostat it is to cold for these engines stick a 180 in it. Not fond of those E3 plugs either.
And you need to consider the drivetrain loss which is about 25% also what type of dyno and is that corrected or what?
If i recall your engine stock has 260HP at the flywheel so your number seema bout right.
The tuner,CAI and header give maybe a total of about 30HP. The fans and pulleis are only good for maybe 8-10
No need for bigger injectors they wont do anything for you with the mods you have.

What were the numbers you were looking for?
March 30, 2008Agreed, something ain't working right. Those number ain't too far outta whack though. I also agree with the throttle body and the spacer. Not sure what else to advise ya on. But I bet someone on here does.
March 30, 2008welcome to
with all the money you wasted on that stuff, you could have almost bought a supercharger and would really be whoopin some ass!!!
April 2, 2008how many miles are on your truck??? i would take everything off. put new motorcraft plugs, flowmaster exhaust, edge programmer and any good intake. maybe leave on the e-fans.
id say mostly u need new plugs, you might have real dirty injectors also. if ur up there in mileage i hear seafoam helps. g/l let us know if u have some kind of turnaround cause yea it does seem like your engine is off a notch or two.
what kind of mpg's u get?
April 2, 2008I would try to put back the stock mass air meter, take off the spacer, and replace the thermostat and take it back to the dyno and see how it goes.
April 3, 2008If it's a Mustng Dyno zeroed right out those numbers are pretty close. There can be as much as 30 to 40 hp difference in the dyno's you could run it on. Have even heard of one place adjusting their dyno 12 to 15% up to make their customers happy.
Agree on the thermostat...........a 160 degree will have you bouncing off and on the warm up cycle.
April 3, 2008HI!... Get yourself the following :
- X-CAL3 tuned by MIKE TROYER at TROYER PERFORMANCE (28H.P)
- KOOKS long tube heads. (shorty headers do nothing)
- MAGNAFLOW exhaust with "X" pipe
- electric fans (good for 19RWH.P on my truck)
- ASP 2 piece power pullies (5-7RWH.P)
- BBK 75MM TB
- Port/polish your TB and TB ELBOW
I made 251RWH.P and 330RWTQ with the above set-up.
Then I built a new N/A 5.4 with FOX LAKE STAGE III heads and custom COMP CAMS cams with only 8.0:1 compression and made 354RWH.P and 392RWTQ, still in N/A set-up.

I was thinking the exact same thing about all 3 points mentioned. The spacer is worthless (except for a whistle) The thermostat is too cold, and you're best off just sticking with Motorcraft Platinum plugs
With these gas engines, you're only going to pick up a few HP here and there with bolt on mods. If you want a significant amount of power, your really best off swinging for the fences and doing a Supercharger; unless you're a freak like Neal and are smart enough to get big power out of a N/A *low* compression set up
Several guys on here have done the Lightning motor swap also
April 3, 2008HI!... That would be "LOW" compression. (8.0:1)
April 3, 2008I think my truck has around 83,500 killometes( i think around 55,000 miles) I get around 13mpg around town using 91 octane. okay i removed the throttle body space and it made a huge deference on the truck. ill put put back the thermostat, remove the E3 sparks and put new motorcraft Platinum spark plugs and the stock mass air sensor this weekend and let you guys know by monday how it fells
NEAL THE HP FREAK: Thats a sweet setup dude. Thats the kind of HP im looking for on my truck what kind of engine you got on your truck? i felt the short headers do anything i didnt fell any HP on the truck ill look for some long tubes..
does anybody know any dynos around santa barbara,ca ? i had dyno my truck in phonix,az looking for a closer dyno the only reason i got it dyno over there is went for a trip.. thanks guys
