July 2, 2007Ok, so I just got a 2000 F350 7.3l, love the truck, just installed my 5th wheel and brake controller today, has the tow package so the wires for the controller were under the dash, but there is no power to the controller, does anyone have any ideas? I have checked all the fuses inside the cab and under the hood and there was nothing wrong, I know on my F150 there was a seperate fuse panel for that stuff, but I could not find one on the 350....

July 3, 2007UPDATE:
So I figured out that the wiring under the dash in not hooked up at all, i.e. no ground, the blue wire does not go to the rear.... does anyone know where a harness would be that might be unplugged?
July 3, 2007Look around under the dash more, for some reason I think there were two similar plugs under the dash of mine. If I remember correctly, the harness for the brake controller is behind the access panel to the fuses. Under the steering wheel and to the right a little, mounted to the dash framing. Good Luck. One fuse box under the dash and one in the engine compartment if you haven't found both.
I also think I had to splice my wires in, I don't recall being able to just plug and go.
July 3, 2007Thanks, I found what should be the wires, but they dont work.. I know in my F150 there was a harness that I was able to get a plug for and just plug and go... any other ideas? I am picking up my trailer today, guess I'll just have the guys there look at it..
July 3, 2007You probably just need to install the MAXI FUSE under the hood in the fuse box. Check that first.
also depending on the controller some don't have power till the trailer is connected.
July 3, 2007Yep right were Bluewater is showing. Drivers side by the firewall.
July 3, 2007I agree with mmmdiesel. I believe when I went to install my brake controller in my 2001 that there was a second, similar socket. Also, how did you attach your controller to the pigtail? You cant connect wire color to wire color. For some reason ford uses different colors.
July 3, 2007ok, so I feel stupid now, went the the dealer to pick up my trailer, and talked to the service guy.. he came out and looked up under the dash and pulled out the factory harness, never been used.. turns out, the wires I was using are just wires that go through the firewall and to nothing, just there for adding stuff or whatever. Anyhow, got it all working, pulled home my trailer (18k lbs 45ft. toyhauler) and it worked great!! Thanks for the help everyone!
