October 8, 2005It's on the master cylinder. On the end...
I borrowed this pic from another post....
October 8, 2005The Underhood Speed control deactivation switch is Ford's unnecessarily long term for Cruise Control deactivator. But that's a picture of it right there.
October 8, 2005Monday night a stranger stopped if front of my house about midnight and screamed in an open window GET OUT OF YOUR HOUSE IT'S ON FIRE! My 1998 F-250 was on fire and it burnt my wifes mini van and burnt the front of my house. The New town fire company 55 saved my house and we all got out and were safe. The next day it was to go in for a recall. It was too late we had a fire.
Please don't park near your house if you did not take it in for the recall. The car was sitting with no keys in it. Ford almost killed us! be-careful don't let this happen to you!
The fire Martial showed me where the fire started and I have photos!!!
The next day we had no transportation so I went to the bank and cashed in a CD then went truck shopping. We were in shock and did it too fast because I purchased a F-350. Before the Fire Martial showed my what did it. I don't trust FORD now! Our house is a mess.
October 8, 2005^^^wow!!! horror story! Sorry to hear about all that man
October 8, 2005Sorry to hear that.
I just went and unplug mine. I never use the cruise anyway.

That's awful. I'm glad you and your family got out ok..
No one needs to wait to take their truck to the dealer to unplug that switch until you can have it fixed. Just reach in there and unplug it.
I'm not saying that to you f250sam or trying to make you are anyone alse feel bad.
Just making it clear to anyone else that reads this thread that if you haven't had the dealer look at your truck yet, then just reach in there and unplug it yourself until you can take it in.
Bosch makes that switch by the way. To say you don't trust Ford isn't really fair. You knew of this problem and you still parked your truck in your garage.. On the bright side, I bet you can get a good settlement from Ford..
October 8, 2005I just unpluged mine so can it still catch on fire?
October 8, 2005No. The fire is caused when the switch leaks(internally) and hits the hot wire plug into it. Once you unplug it the switch is no longer hot, so even if it leaks no chance of fire.
October 8, 2005I knew of the recall but I did not want to unplug anything when it's connected to the brakes. Also I did not understand the danger involved. I did not park it near the house I put it at the end of my driveway because I new it was on recall. It still did this. My Ford dealer told me it just an recall don't' worry about it. A 45 min job and you will be on your way.
If I would have seen the photo on this form the outcome would have been different. It's a shame Ford just didn't me what to unplug. My appointment was the next day at PM. That stinks my luck!
The Fire Martial told me that this was the second one to burn in Bucks County. Just think how many burnt. To see your truck on fire like that was a shock then to see your wifes mini van start to burn is one thing but when it goes to the house this is something you have to be in my shoes to understand. My wife and I owe allot to our Police and Fire co.
October 8, 2005not to knock anyone down on this, but a recall is a recall for a reason. it should never be taken lightly, no matter how big or small the part(s). thank god for passers-by or friends or whatever that you and your family were warned and able to get out of the house in time. glad to hear that all are safe.
