January 28, 2004Has any one ever replaced the motor or had it out of a 1998 f150. I usually do my own work, but have heard you need to lift the cab from frame to do this work. Can save about 1200.00 if I complete myself, but want to make sure I have all details before I get started.

January 28, 2004You dont need to lift the cab off the frame. Alot of the guys feel this cuts down on labor time.
January 29, 2004Like Krusty said. It makes it easier because you do not have to contort into some obscure postions to tighten and connect everything......
January 29, 2004Lifting the cab off the frame seems like more work to me, like others said I'm sure it's not necessary.
January 29, 2004Lifting the body off didn't seem easier to either maybe if I had a lift to lift it off I may have done mine that way but did it the conventional way the transmission bolts have to be the worst at least the first time, once you know what extensions you need you'll be fine also top starter bolt is a pain, if your getting a replacement motor try to get it with exhaust manifold attached, you will break a few taken them off also I took digital pics of all connections makes it easier pitting it all back.
