December 23, 2003I have to agree with Boss and Cujo, Every product has its pros and cons. Meguiar's is reasonably priced for what you get, however I feel when I've tried it, I'm working to hard and it's not fun to wax my truck. Overall, I'd rate it between 3 and 9 (to be safe).

December 23, 2003I love Mequiar's Products...Work Really Well For Me!!!
December 23, 2003Well it was either Armor All of the Meguiars so I went w/ Meguiars b/c I had heard better things about it.
December 23, 2003i have had good results with megs products, i use the 3 step system they have out and it works good, i rate it an 8. only 8 because i detailed our expediton and it was in the shade, but got a little sun because it was under a tree, so it wasnt totally covered...well, it made it a very big pain in the @$$ to get the polish off some spots, but other than that, nothing bad to say.
December 23, 2003I have three black rides and give Megs: 3
I have a new product I use now and it lasts longer, easier to use.
Dark cars Meg never worked for me.
I have used ALL Megs line since 1990, stoped useing the line in 2003.
Bottom line, USE what works for U !!!
At one time I had 50 brands of Wax in the shop, great working for a RETAIL store !!
FYI: New are paint is way easier to take care of, somthing I never had in my life !
December 23, 2003Pro is right in that for dark colors Megs never made anything for it. I talked to a Megs rep about a year ago and they told me they dont have anything geared for dark colors. However, they are coming out with a new line called NXT Gen and from what I understand and have read it will be kick ass for everything!
Megs isnt where they are today because they make crappy products
Find something that works for ya and stay with it.
December 23, 2003Let me clarify something.
NEW paint it works great on DARK !!!
Megs semi trailer is ALL BLACK which I saw in 94 at the auto parts store I worked at.
My truck is BARE Lacquer and oxidizes real bad.
Second on black rides it never lasted very long, read very two weeks it had to be reapplied.
The new stuff I use, the DIRT doesn't stick and the last waxed was in Aug !!
Megs is great, U have to learn what to use for your TRUCK.
For me a buffer is needed, not something I want to do.
So I gave my megs away to lite colored cars in the Neighborhood !!
This just came out and is what the used on the black semi trailer at the time:
Hi-technology equals exceptional results. Medallion Premium Paint Protection will restore your finish-especially dark colors-to a deep, full-spectrum shine. The exclusive Meguiar's MiraBenz™ bonding system uses positively charged molecules to "lock" the finish to the surface, making it almost impervious to daily assaults. Its balanced blend of nutrients and conditioners combines with superior waxes to provide brilliant performance. If you value perfection, you'll love Medallion Premium Paint Protection. It provides the deepest gloss and the longest lasting protection in one step!
Works great on fresh clean paint ONLY !! So agin prep is the KEY !
December 23, 2003I hope there was no miscommunication with this ... what I meant was they claim they didnt have anything MADE for dark colors at that time. Maybe they reformulated the Medallion line or something, but I do know that line is killer. This was from a Megs rep, not me. On new paint, ANYTHING will look good ... yes even Turtle Wax.
I agree 1000% that prep work is the key and I have said that myself in many other posts
December 23, 2003Just clarifing, U are ok Cujo.
Learned alot this past year from all the detailers on this site !
December 23, 2003I agree with the dark colors vs. light colors comment. I agree with Boss 429 also. Meg's products are easy to use but are pretty much the same stuff it has been for years, really no new development. Meg's products are great because anyone can use them too.........
December 23, 2003Actually within the last couple years Megs has revamped some of their products such as #9. Now they are about to release NXT GEN that is said to be kick ass stuff. I have seen some pics on both light / dark / red paints and let me tell ya ... smokin hot!
