December 22, 2003I have an 03 F150 and I needed to get behind the grill. To do this I needed to rempve the plastic piece that covers the area between the grill and the radiator. It is held on with about six plastic screws. They are screwed into a plastic collar. I got one to come out by unscrewing the plastic screw with a screwdriver then popping out the collar. When I tried to unscrew the rest of the plastic screws they would only turn and not come out no matter how much coaxing that I did. I wanted to put a small screwdirver blade under the head and try lifting while turning the screw hoping this would cause the screw to back out but I could not get any kind of blade under the screw head. HELP, how do I get this pesky screws out?
December 22, 2003Instead of a small screwdriver, I used the tip of my fingernail...
...While turning the screws with a screwdriver. Hope it works for you!
December 22, 2003pocket knife works great to help remove them. get the edge of the knife under the edge and gently lift as you turn the screw with just enough pressure to turn the screw or you will push it back in while trying to back it out.
December 25, 2003Same here. Don't apply any pressure downward while trying to unscrew them. A knife blade, finger nail, etc., in order to lift them up a little until the "so-called" threads bite to unscrew.
December 25, 2003Yup I agree what these guys said already, thats what I did as well
January 2, 2004AGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I tried your ideas but had no luck. I can get the ones out that attatch to the top of the radiator support but the ones that attatch to the top of the grill area are fighting me. I am about ready to cut them out and buy new ones.
January 3, 2004i just popped the sucker off of mine with a screwdriver with reckless abandon... hey it worked for me
January 16, 2004Nice that you mention it, I was just doing that today, i didnt know how to at first, I was trying to use a screw driver and screw them out, but it was just stripping. Then my Auto budy told me to use a screw driver, if that dosnt work use a nail, dig in and pull out.
January 16, 2004They are cheep you get a bag of like 5 when you buy them. If they won't come out, just destroy them. Don't damage your cover though.
January 16, 2004I've never had to destroy any of mine, I just use an a little upward pressure while screwing them out until I can get a better grip and then they just pull right out.
February 27, 2004Some came out some didnt. Pulled them out and bought a bag of them for 3.50 from the dealer. Now they're all new
