July 3, 2007Hey, I'm new to Indiana (from NW Missouri) and was kinda wondering what there is to do around here, as far as Ford trucks, where to buy parts, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

July 4, 2007Welcome to the World! Maybe some of the off roaders in the group will hook you up to some wheelin' sites near here. Mine is lowered as I like to corner briskly. As for parts, I try to get the best quality part from the least expensive place I can find by shopping around. Where are you in West Lafalot? Nice trucks, by the way! My first truck was a '76.
July 4, 2007Hey Shorty, that 76 is my dad's, my truck is a 95 F150. I don't 4x4, too many memories of growing up in the country and doing it b/c we HAD to, kinda takes the fun out of it.
I'm right smack in the middle of Purdue campus.
July 8, 2007We have a '95 too. It's my wife's daily driver with 80 some thousand miles. It's a Sapphire Blue, Supercab Flareside with a 351, automatic that we bought new here in town(see gallery). I work at Purdue (27 years this August) in Freehaffer Hall as an Archival Technician. We maintain the drawings and documents for just about every building on Purdue's four campuses.
July 8, 2007Where exactly is the Ford dealer around here? I've seen everything else, including Lincoln and Mercury...did I just not see the Ford sign there (kinda across from Home Depot)
And second question about the dealer: how's the service? I don't know mechanics around here and figured I'd just take it to Ford for an oil change, but not if they'll going to try to screw me over
July 8, 2007For factory parts check out Bob Utter Ford Lincoln Mercury in Sherman, Texas at 1-866-941-3673. They get me parts 25% less than the local dealer and it's delivered to my door. Raisor's Ford (out by Tippecanoe Mall on Sagamore Parkway just south of Main Street/Ind. 3 does oil changes well but I work on my own and have friends that help with all that I don't know. We've collectively lowered about six trucks, I built my own exhaust and last weekend put an Autometer Lunar Gauge cluster in my '01.
July 8, 2007Exhaust, eh? I'm all ears
I MapQuested the Ford dealer, I'll try to get over there sometime, although I really don't need to worry about an oil change until I decide to go home, running around town here I should be fine
Where do you suggest getting gas? My front tank is below 1/4 and I'd rather not have to dip into the back tank
July 9, 2007I bought some straight pipes at my favorite local auto supply, General Automotive on Earl Avenue, a mandrel-bent J-bend from Summit Racing, Flowmasters from my friend's speed shop, Auto Tech and stainless steel band clamps from NAPA and had at it. I think there's pictures in my gallery. I had a local muffler shop run the tail pipes but when I get some more capital I want to redo the tail pipes with 2 1/2" mandrel-bent pipes myself. I want to do a custom exhaust for my daughter's Ranger soon.
For gas, check www.gas buddy.com to see who has the least expensive.
July 11, 2007So you just clamped it together with no welding? I could do that myself then, I'm not planning on running tailpipes, so that would be perfect.
What's your friend's shop? Is it in Lafayette? I'd rather support a local business than buy from Summit
July 11, 2007I used the band clamps where the new tubes connected to the stock pipes. I welded reducers (2 1/2" to 2 1/4" )and part of the J-bend to a piece of 2 1/4" straight pipe that went from the drivers side head pipe to one of the mufflers. When I get around to replacing the tailpipes I'll weld those pieces together. What kind of exhaust system are you wanting to do? Autotech is located between K-Mart and the Lafayette 7 theater on McCarty Lane in Lafayette.
A group of us will be at Mike Aulby's Arrowhead Bowl for a car show this coming Saturday, July 14, and you want to visit, look for either my white truck with the Indiana Chapter sticker on the windsheild or our blue '79 Trans Am. Or, better yet, bring your truck and join our group for the day. If I get the truck cleaned up I can show you the exhaust there!
July 11, 2007And where is that at?
(Sorry, I know where Wal-Mart is and can get there without getting lost, haven't ventured too far into Lafayette by myself yet)
But it sounds like a good idea, is it an all day event?
And I'll see about getting my truck clean, haven't found a carwash yet!
