June 30, 2007so my 98 half ton came with all the biggest, coolest toys it seems that were offered in 98.....except for the 4R100, which i thought would be in this truck. instead, I've found that I was stuck with the E4OD unit, which i've heard isnt quite as strong and lasting a transmission as the 4R100 is.
my question is, how much trouble would it be to get rid of the E4OD and put a 4R100 behind the motor?
is the tailshaft length the same (would i have to swap driveshafts, too)?
would a pcm flash/tuner be required for the new transmission to work?
will the existing crossmember work, or would it have to be relocated?
would the shift linkage line up?
is there anything i havent thought of?
i know there are bell housings made for the 4R100 to bolt up to a 5.4L, so im not really concerened about that.
