March 30, 2006whats up everybody, I just got my truck back....I was in an accident and I see this as getting a second chance with my truck, I was wondering how manytimes a month is good for waxing. I heard that if you wax it too much you can damage the paint....anyone know anythting on this?

March 30, 2006Give us some particulars, does the truck get garaged?...
I don't believe over-waxing to be harmful. There isn't anything in the wax that would do harm, so unless your applicator is full of crap I don't see it doing anything bad. Overuse of a polish might be another story. Everytime you use a polish (especially an aggressive one) you're taking off a bit of the clear coat.
Kept inside (which one of my trucks is), I figured a couple coats of wax a year is good.
Kept outside (which another of my trucks is), I probably coat it 4 times a year.
Not an expert, but I play one on truck forums...
March 30, 2006I hand wax mine every 4-6 weeks and then when I wash it give it that just waxed look I use wax as you dry
March 30, 2006Having done auto detailing and learning from some of the best...
It depends on inside/outside parking, weather, and frequency of washes.
If kept outside-
Given various weather conditions and frequency of car washes:
Every 2-6 months
If kept inside-
Every 6 months to 1 year
March 30, 2006PS. General rule of thumb...
If the water beads up and doesn't leave streaks or lines when it gets wet, then the wax is doing good. Or if you put a towel on the hood and can EASILY slide it around like a puck on an air hocky table, then your wax is good to go.
March 30, 2006thanks everyone with the replies...I keep it outside, in sunny los angeles ca.

April 1, 2006In reguards to this topic , what wax or polish are people getting the best results from.
April 1, 2006If your truck was just painted, I would not wax it even if there is the hardner in it. I would wait at least a month to wax it so that you don't burn or f up the paint.
April 1, 2006I'm with hoyd! don't wax it for a month after having it painted!!
but heck who am I?
I wax my trucks once a month if not more, due to the salt mist here in hawaii!
BTW simple green is(IMO) the best for cleaning the inner fenders, undercarriage, tires, and wheels!
