October 31, 2010I recently had plugs changed on 2001 F-150 5.4 193,000. The plugs looked okay except the mechanic told me that I had a leak in my head gasket in number 1 and two cylinder The spark plugs had a white ash on top and under the

October 31, 2010Have you checked your oil recently? If it is a milky color, you have water/antifreeze in it. How`s the operating temperature?
When one of my head gaskets was going out, my temp was all over the place.
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten.
November 1, 2010I agree that it may be running lean on those cylinders however if you are having to add a bit of coolant every now and then that is a sign of a head gasket.
my brother was adding a pint here and there and I told him the head gasket was leaking and was going to blow but he didnt listen telling me I was full of it and 6 months later the gasket blew, he kept driving despite the white cloud out the tailpipe and blew the engine.
February 17, 2011I did a checked on my head gasket set. How can i check if the gasket blew? or any signs of it? Can you still drive that even if the blew the engine?
February 17, 2011signs of a bad head gasket.
1) a lot of white smoke out the tail pipe (some white smoke is normal when the engine is cold or outside temps are really cold)
2) coolant in oil EX: brownish or white sludge in the oil.
driving it with a blown head gasket will cause the engine to seize.
February 17, 2011another way you can check is putting a leakdown test on each cylinder.
it a spark plug with a hole driller through it that has a gauge and a valve so you can put air in the cylinder and lock it so you get a reading on the gauge.
if the gauge drops off rapidly than there is a leak somewhere in that cylinder.
if it drops off slowly that would be the blow by on the rings which a certain amount is acceptable.
check cylinders on the other bank to use as a guide to what the supposed leaking cylinders should look like on the gauge
