October 13, 2009I picked up a 2002 ford f150 with the small v6, anyway It seems to not idle smooth, and when u start acclerating it shakes really bad, but seems to go away the faster you drive. Does anyone have any ideas?

October 13, 2009i having simular problems but mine dont sound as bad, when im on the hiway it has a surge and sitting over nite makes for a hard start... so far all ive done is checked the fuel pressure and im sitting at 29psi idling (20psi when i first turn the key on, as i crank it slowly climbs up to about 35 then drops to 29 when running)...from what ive read on all data im running at the bare minimum for fuel pressure. i would guess you have the same problem. 400+bucks according to alldata for a new pump so im going to see if the fuel pump i got in my donor f150 i got for my 03 f150 4.6....donor has a 5.4l engine, according to all data both pumps operate at the same pressure, its just a matter of fitment and correct line sizes

October 13, 2009See my problem seems a bit different, the truck has no problem starting at all, just flip the key forward and it runs. I just bought the truck so its not yet registered, I am going to take it to auto zone to get it scanned for codes. If anyone else is having similar problems please chime in.
November 3, 2009i got same damn problem in my 94 ranger with 4.0... it has a miss ideling & sputters wile driving but when i speed up it runs fine but when its crusing it mildly shakes... replaced fuel filter, maf, tps, iac, pvc, iat, checked all vaccume hoses & replaced all that was rotted but i`ve still got it. had fuel injectors checked they are all fine...had it scanned 3 times & every time said air/fuel is off.. like air is more then fuel... last time i went they said the intake manifold is leaking so i ripped top of motor apart & replaced upper & lower gaskets. it still does it.. still got the cel wile driving but when i speed up it goes away but comes back on wile crusing.. truck starts up quickly but revs to 2200 then idles back down to 900 after few seconds... also replaced coil pack,sparkplugs wires..still got it. been told by many people my intake manifold may be cracked. but they were both fine when i replaced gaskets... im $467 into this sputter & im about to sell truck b/c its been really blowing my gas mileage. went from 22mpg to less then 13 on a good day..
