September 6, 2009I have a newly rebuilt engine that has to be stored until next year and is currently in an engine bag in the house where it's nice & dry. Worried tho about cylinder rust - what might be good to treat the cylinder walls with through the spark plug holes? MMO, regular motor oil, or just leave it alone? My first time doing this & don't want to wind up w/a worthless piece of metal. Anyone?

September 6, 2009I used to know some old guys who would fill the entire engine with oil, all the way up to the top of the valve covers and in all the cylinders. Said you could leave a motor sitting as long as you want to that way.
Never tried it or had a need to but I think it would work. It would probably be easier to just spray some WD-40 in the cylinders.
