February 26, 2009My current 4 year old Dell computer is running low on space. Do you recommend getting a new tower *or* an external hard drive? I have thousands of songs and pics I''ll need to transfer to the new machine, but I also would like to be able to back up those files. I could care less about my programs, they are replaceable.
February 26, 2009You can buy an external USB hard drive with 500GB of space for $99. That is the best way to go. If you are worried about losing file then buy two if them and back up on to the other every so often.
Annoy a conservative, thank a gay soldier.
November 9, 2009You can always get another internal hard drive and install it then just cut/paste all your data to that drive. Same idea as getting an external drive but internal connections are always faster.
November 10, 2009I`ll second what plane said.....I have a 500gb external USB hard drive for storage and backups.
March 31, 2010All of these are good options but do you want a temporary fix or a more permanent one? The external HD`s are great and you should get one no matter what you do to have a backup of your data in case your C ever fails. Ultimately you may want to backup all the data on your computer, wipe out the C drive and re-install Windows and all your software. You`ll definitely recoup a lot of HD space and clean up any garbage that`s on the machine. Now, you can only to this if you obviously know how or know someone that can help you out. If your current C is getting full you may want to get a larger drive before you do this and make the new drive the new C drive.
There are lots of variations to what you can do. If you were wondering, I`m a systems analyst for a major oil company so I do this for a living. Hope this helps.
August 18, 2011Go for the external hard disk.It is the best option for you.
August 31, 2011I bought an external one ( one terabyte) Now everything is stored on it.
September 2, 2011Yup, go with the purchase of an external hard drive. But for a 500GB drive you should easily be able to find it for cheaper than $99. They can be found for around $60 or $70 if you look around. Becoming a very basic capacity now so the price is a lot cheaper.
