January 13, 2009i have a 89 ranger with a 2.9. im starting to get rattling in the bottom end, ticking lifters, and my oil pressure isnt the greatest, plus im burning (and leaking) a little oil, and she seems to be getting really tired, and....the 2.9 really doesnt have much power any way. i just did an oil change with castrol GTX high mileage and it gave me some oil pressure back, but she still rattles and ticks. u should hear it at the first start in the morning.
i could just have my motor rebuilt, but wheres the fun in that? theres a guy who has a 97 4.0 complete and says it will bolt right in. what do i have to do to get this motor in the truck and running? if its to much work ill just put a carbed 302 in it, but i kinda wanted to keep it a reliable daily driver and still have decent mpg.
