January 6, 2009There is a newer variant of an old malware program out there that is making a nuisance of itself. It is the MS AntiSpyware 2009 popup (msas2009.exe) program. It looks like a Microsoft warning and it puts a fake Microsoft spyware/security shield in the notification area of your tool bar. I got a warning about it and went out looking for info about it. I was able to get hit by it (on purpose) so I could test 3 fixes that I had came across online. I tried the manual hand picking it out method which unless you are a pc god I wouldn''t recommend. It worked but it was UGLY. Of the two programs that are recommended Spyhunter was the only one that completely removed it so it didn''t re-infect.
Unfortunately it has a $25 fee. AVG didn''t see it, Norton didn''t see it. McAfee didn''t see it, Spybot saw everything but the problem, Hijack this saw it but it only tells you that there is a problem. Adaware didn''t see it either.
So watch out.
