December 21, 2008When should you start to think about overhauling a 2.3? As in how many miles. Im coming around 100,000 and if i am going to replace pistons, then may as well overhaul it and have basically a new engine for another 100k. Any thoughts?

December 21, 2008You should overhaul it when it starts to burn a bunch of oil. That''s my rule of thumb.
Basically, if you''ve gone as far as putting new pistons in, to not do the rest would be foolish.
December 21, 2008Well, im not burning a lot of oil. Not burning hardly any oil really. Ive never built a 4cyl, only V6''s and V8''s. What kind of difficulty level are we talkin compared to a V motor?
January 23, 2009Less difficult. There''s only one cylinder head, half the pistons, its awesome. It doesn''t weight a metric s**tload, you know, easy peasy, Japanesey.
January 23, 2009Ha ha, i like that. Sounds good. Im trying to get my harley to stop being temperamental, once thats done, i think i might rip that thing out.
Does anyone know a good bore number for a 2.3?...maybe 30 over? I am just looking for more power. I know thats a lot to ask from a 4cyl, but i like my little guy, lol.
