December 13, 2007Was thinking the other day while leaving work and seeing a v10 van. Has anyone done or seen a turbo setup on a V10?

December 14, 2007I thought I saw an article in one of the truck magazines a couple of years ago with a V-10 and supercharger but not a turbo. I understood that these new engines don't do well with a turbo but the belt driven supercharger will gain about 100 hp. I think the real problem is with the electronics associated with fuel delivery, tranny shifting, etc with the new tranny setup. There's just not enough interest in hopping up the V-10 yet, but I think that is about to change.
December 14, 2007Whipple and Kenbell both make superchargers for the V10. Acording to Trucking Mag the V10 made 509 HP at 6 pounds of boost.
Ive often wondered about a turbo V10 myself. Im sure its possible and expensive. Probably in the $6,000+ range.
December 14, 2007Yeah, but the $6k extra cost is about the same as the diesel option but has alot more HP. I just wonder about the supercharger and reliability assuming one doesn't abuse it.
December 14, 2007If you have a pipe bender, some knowledge, and can weld, you can do your own kit for fairly cheap. A few guys are building their own kits for under 2k for their v6 f-150's....same principles for a v-10, just a little bigger. Tuning is really the biggest challenge.
Turbo's will always out perform a supercharger, you will see a lot more power to the ground with a turbo motor than you with a supercharged motor with equal boost amounts.....there are no parisitic losses with the turbo like the supercharger has. You are using the wasted energy of the exhaust gasses to build boost instead of using a belt driven compressor off of the crank, which robs a lot of power. They both do the same thing, which is just cramming more air into the motor, they just do it different ways. Superchargers (roots and twin screw) build max boost pretty much right off of idle, so you have instant power. You do have to wait for a turbo to spool, but the lag can pretty much be taken care of with a smaller turbo, or compounds.
As for turbo v-10's, I have only seen them on vipers and srt rams...and they are crazy!
March 25, 2008So there is a SuperCharger out there for 05-08 V10's ? U have a link to the Sites ....
June 26, 2008if you where to turbo one of these v10''s a universal STS turbo kit would be ideal...all you would have to do is weld it to your exhaust and put the puzzel together not to hard to do ! If I had the money right now I would experment with it !
Whats the most power one of our V10''s have put out all factory with bolt ons?
