October 18, 2007everythin ghas to be swapped I'd imagine...haven't done this myself. Wouldn't it be cheaper & easier to get a different truck? Or perhaps swap the body?
October 18, 2007well my engine went my 4.6 and i got a 5.4 supercharged one from a buddy that swapped that out for a lightning
March 7, 2011i hate to bring back such a dead post but did you ever do this swap? if so what all was involved aside from a ECU and getting the plugs to work?
March 7, 2011Yeah,,,this is an old thread...lol
But what are you wanting to do or know exactly?
I can probability help some.
I put a L drivetrain in my truck.
March 7, 2011yeah it was one of the newest ones i could find and the way rogco was talkin he seemed like he WAS gonna do it. ok. i got the 4.6 in mine and its got 230k on it, at the moment i dont need a new motor but im afraid i will soon. what im wonderin is will the motor bolt to the tranny i got now. i think i got the coil pack/coil on plug issue figgured out. and i know ill need the ecu which i believe will plug right up. i just need a rough idea of what all else its going to take. if it takes to much im just going to swap in a 12 valve cummins like jesse did.
March 7, 2011You do NOT need to change the ecu.
The 5.4 will bolt right up to you tranny that`s in the truck now.
You can ether run the 5.4 on COPs or you can still run it like you have now,(two coils and plug wires)Both ways work just fine.
Basically all you need is to make the exhaust adjustments and get a tune for your computer to run the 5.4
I know a guy that did it and ran for a long time without even a new tune but it will run better with a tune for the 5.4
March 8, 2011ok thanks. so how do you like your 5.4 compared to he 4.6? was it worth the effort?
March 8, 2011I never had a 4.6 in my truck.
I went from my stock 5.4 to a Lightning supercharged 5.4
I have talked to many guys that did the 4.6 to 5.4 swap and they have been very happy with the results.
