moose-66,If you'll look closely, you'll see that mine is a vertical tank also, however, the main reason for doing mine is the cheap drain they installed. It was just a simple screw valve, no T, that was extremely hard to turn after draining the tank. It often required a slight nudge using pliers just to break it loose.

Looks good,your reason for changing it out was the same as mine,it's much easier to do it after each use now!!!

2 years later and mine is still going strong. No leaks and I know that the steel tank is much happier now not having water collect in the bottom of it.July 17, 2009

Old thread but good one. Funny thing, I bought my new one about 6 months ago, a month after I had it the friggin drain would not seal. I pulled it out to see it was completely shot.So, I brought home from work a few pieces of SS nipples, and a SS ball valve and WALLA, a nice new drain that actually works when needed!

Coming up on almost 10 years since this fix.... compressor is still happy.
