December 29, 2006Has anyone experienced an electrical fire from a short somewhere in the rear passenger door of an Explorer (mine is 2003)?
After starting engine and travelling about 1/2 mile, my son noticed smoke coming from the rear passenger door speaker. When I looked, the speaker area was aglow like a toaster oven. We pulled over and got 4 kids out of the car. Door caught fire and melted over half of interior panel before we could extinguish it. We assume there was some type of short either to the speaker or the power window.
Luckily no one was hurt. Any similar experiences out there?
We had also just recently had a series of problems fixed to resolve a check engine light including new spark plugs, replacement of 2 burnt engine coils, and replacement of catalytic converter. Do any of these indicate any underlying problem with the electrical system that I should be more concerned about?
