September 10, 2006What kind of fuel economy do the 3/4 tons get with either the 6.8 or 5.4 liter engine? I have heard that the 5.4 does the same or worse so a guy might as well have the power to spare. Are both engines good and reliable. I know the the v10 especially was not designed with fuel economy in mind but what is the average and is there a programmer that helps.

September 10, 2006The PSD gets better than both almost combined.
September 11, 2006I've driven the V8 in a Superduty. Very underpowered compared to the V10. I own a V10 and a PSD. Love them both.
September 14, 2006I was getting 10.3 with my v10 stock (with 4.30 gears)
now with 8 inches of lift and 38s and regeared to 4.88s i am getting 9.1
power is awesome, if you never tow then the 5.4s 14mpg may be a better option but in thaqt case so may a f150.
I dont beleive they ofer a 5.4 in a sd anymore for that reason. for the 600 prioce tag diffrence the v10 is a reliable powerhouse.
October 17, 2006I had an 01 5.4, I just got an 06 V-10, I tow, work and play with my truck and from the time I first started looking I was zeroed in on a V-10. Much better all the way around! I just could not bring myself to buy a 6.0, I know my luck and there are just too many issues with that motor for my likeing, we have 4 7.3s and love them and one 5.9 cummins and love it as well but I hate the sound and the smell in the garage in the morning! Just my opinion.

October 22, 2006PSD's do get better milage, but is sure stinks up the garage, like my V10 a lot better, getting 14 on the road, 10 around town..
October 22, 2006When i bought my 2000 V10 superduty I'll have to say I was a litttle sceptical but it performed flawlessly with no problems for several years. When I decided to trade it in on an 05 I got another V10. IMO it responds very well for such a heavy truck and still pulls anything I need it to. The gas millage (10-15mpg) doesn't concern me as I have a work car to drive and only have only racked up 6000 miles on my 05. Just my .
