April 27, 2006Has anybody painted there tow bar. What did you use to prep and paint it. Want to make it look a lot cleaner and better. get all the rust off!!!
April 28, 2006Best think to do is place your tow bar on some wooden horses and sand with 180 grit all around. Get a piece of 80 grit sandpaper and hit all the rusted areas only and follow that with a stiff wire brush to get all the loose rust off. Blow off the complete tow bar with an air gun or blower to get all dust off.
Then wipe with a clean rag to remove fine dust
Get some "MORTS" rust killer and brush on 1 light coat only on the rusted areas, wait like directed as the Morts will turn whatever rust might be remaining on the bar to be neutralized and turned into a primered compound.
After drying get some "SEMS" metal etching primer in "black" and spray evenly the complete towbar.
After drying, purchase a scuff pad meant only to scuff a primered surface prior to painting and scuff the complete tow bar.
Spray with any paint of your choice, Note: you may want to hang the tow bar to elevate it so you can spray completely without obstructions.
May 8, 2006thanks that info really helped. its going to be my project as soon as school gets out this month.
